A gantry is a necessary piece of equipment. It is used to lift frames and plates into position. Using a chain lift, you can position slowly and carefully and most operations can be handled singlehandedly.
The gantry pictured above was constructed out of a scrap metal table. The base was inverted angle iron that allowed me to pull the gantry along the ground on 'skis'. The arrangement worked very well. Once of the few 'near accidents' I had building the boat occurred when I was trying to get the top crossbeam onto the top of the two side frameworks. I lost control of the beam and nearly broke my arm.
